NEXT MEETING…NEW VENUE Our first meeting of the
Fall will be held on September 10 at 7 pm. The Fairfield Woods Library is no
longer available or appropriate, so we will be meeting at the Southport Woods
Condo Clubhouse on Southport Woods Drive. For questions, call Jean at
292-3351. Directions: I 95 South: Exit 19, R onto Pease Ave., L onto
Kings Hwy to Southport Woods Dr. Take 2nd R past pool to Clubhouse
on L. Park at visitor parking around Clubhouse. Post Rd. to Southport, go under thruway bridge,
R onto Pease Ave (before Shell gas station. Follow directions above. Our featured speaker will
be international documentary photographer and explorer, Daryl Hawk,
presenting a slide show of his recent work, “The Art of Adventure”. Daryl has spent the past
25 years traveling alone to the most remote and isolated places in the world,
telling stories with his camera. These include the Andes, Patagonia,
Antarctica, and the Himalayas. His photos have appeared in magazines and
newspapers worldwide, and in his two books, “Distant Journeys” and “Quiet
Moments”. Daryl has been on the
Today show and on Fox 5 and he is the producer and host of “The
Unconventional Traveler”, seen on Tuesdays at 9 pm on Channel 77. He is a member
of the Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society. There will be no
refreshments but there will be time for critiquing one artwork per member. LAST MEETING On Wednesday, July 9 at 7
pm, we met at the home of FCAA member, Julie Schempp, for our annual
end-of-year Ice Cream Social. The weather was fine and we enjoyed delicious
ice cream with toppings and a chance to chat with each other. We also held a
brief group critique of work brought to the meeting. We thank Julie for
opening her home to us. EXHIBIT SPACE CHAIRPERSON FCAA members need a place
to exhibit as a group and someone to be our Exhibit Space Chairperson. That
person will visit area sites and see if any fits our needs. If you will do
this, call Alice. So far, only Independence
Hall meets our qualifications: Willingness to show at least one work
from every interested member…Large enough for 25 or more works…Open
time…Ample parking…Visible to buyers…Fairly local. Some area galleries were
looked at but were either inappropriate or unavailable. So, until we find
somewhere else, we will be booking Independence Hall for the next show we
have. FUTURE MEETINGS Jean is in the process of checking out an available and
suitable place to hold future FCAA meetings. Stay tuned. |
ART NEWS The FCAA binder notebook was submitted to the Curatorial

cannot be a repeat of any group previously shown in the gallery. Bruce S. Kershner Gallery: There is still time until September 7
to see the beautiful works by the three winners of 2007 Art Now show. This
will be followed by a site-specific installation created with colored masking
tape by Lauren Cotton. It can be viewed from September 14 to November 2, with
a reception on September 20. All exhibits are on view during library hours.
256-3155. Westport Art Center: Member Group Show II, including FCAA
